WHO STHUCK BUCKLEY.
Timothy Donovan was charged with unlawfully assaulting one Timothy Buckley. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Timothy Buckley, who appeared in Court with his arm in a sling, sworn, deposed—l am a bootmaker. On 2nd October I was walking past the Prince Imperial Hotel when the defendant came, behind and struck me on the neck. When I turned round defendant struck me again knocking me into the gutter. My arm was injured, and. I have been under the doctor s treatment for several days.' By defendant —I was not drunk at the time. I was not with you on that morning, but I was at Mulligan's when you came in. You asked me if I had sent you bills, and I said I had. I did not say I was a major in the, Turkish contingent and you were a private. I never said you got your medals at; the pawn office. Barty's, and saw Donovan go up and strike Buckley, who was walking along the street. Buckley fell into fhe'gutter, and appeared stunned, I picked him up. By defendant—Buckley promised to pay me for coming here. .Defendant stated tiiat Buckley and him had had some words, and they had shoved each other,-and Buckley fell into the gutter. Buckley told him to salute him whenever he met him. Fined 40s and costs, 395, or in default 14 days' imprisonment. BBEACH OF PEACE. William Cobb and William Harris were charged with committing a breach of the - peace through fighthg in a yard adjoining Queen street. . ' Defendants said they had been wrestling. Constable Cleary, sworn, deposed—l was on duty in Grahamstown on the night of the 15th inst. In consequence of information I proceeded to the Queen's Hotel, and saw the defendant Cobb, whose |eye was bleeding. I also saw, Harris, and they both admitted fighting. ' Defendants were bound over to keep the peace for three months in their own recognisances of £10 each, and paj the costs. - .
