NEW PLYMOUTH.
Monday.
The Herald authoritatively contradicts the rumour that has appeared in the Wellington papers relative to Sir Tohn Coode's report against the feasibility of constructing a harbour at. New Plymouth.
A fearful gale was blowing yesterday.
The s.s. Taranaki arrived here yesterday at 3 p.m., after 27 hours' passage from the Manukau Heads. She could not be tendered, and left at 5 p.m. to take shelter under the Sugar Loaves. She parted her cable, and had to put to sea. She returned this morning at 7.30 to land the San Francisco mails, and sailed again at 10.30 a:m. , A very stormy south-westerly gale was experienced yesterday, accompanied with terrific'squalls, with heavy sea, moderating during the night.
