DUNEDIN.
Saturday. A public meeting was held at Anderson's Bay last evening, when it was resolved, that the County Council be requested immediately to adopt the whole Counties Act, and that a petition be presented to the Government praying that the whole County be declared a railway district under the District Eailways Act, for the purpose of constructing a railway through the centre of the peninsula at Anderson's Bay to Portobello and the Heads. A committee of the Chamber of Commerce have resolved to recommends the Chamber to give support to proposals that notice of all bankruptcies be inserted in the Mercantile Gazette of New Zealand. The Hon. H. S. Chapman has written to the Chamber of Commerce recommending that the Government should reduce the railway fares to twopence per mile first class, and a penny per mile second. He points out that New Zealand charges maximum rates for a minimum speed. N Sunday. The Jockey Club last night resolved to remove the disqualification from Fishhook and Derrit for unfair running on the Oamaru course over £ year ago.
