In the Supreme' Court to-day n man named Eankin sued the Norwich Union Insurance Company for £100, being the unpaid balance on a fire insurance policy in 1875 ftankin insured his hotape for £500 with the company. In 1877: the housed was burnt down, when the company refused to pay more than £400, on the ground that it was the full value of the house. After-hearing the evidence, the jury returned a verdict for plaintiff for the full amount, with interest and costs. / In the Magistrate's Court to-day, Timothy Houlahan, an elderly man, w»s committed for trial for rape on a girl under 8 years of age. Several more cases against persons keeping kerosene for sale without branding the same as " dangerous " were heard and dismissed with cautions.
