WAITARA.

Saturday night. Serious Riot at Waitara, Lawless Proceedings ofWaikato Natives. About thirty Waikato natives, who had been drinking during the day, attempted to pull down and burn the Waitara Hotel. The constable called upon the Europeans to assist in arresting the ringleaders, when a serious riot took place, but no one was seriously hurt, although blood was flowing freely. The ringleaders were eventually lodged in gaol, but owing to threats of the natives and attempted rescue of the prisoners, they were released iby order of Thomas Bayley, J.P. The affair has caused great excitement, and the blame is laid with the Police Department for not having a proper staff located here. ,
