At the Police C/Urt to-day George Howard apologised for assaulting Mr Woolfield. The apology was accepted, and Howard was discharged. Crowe, charged with maliciously assaulting Harry Broome, prize fighter, with a billhook in a brothel, was remanded for a week. Broome's recovery is"expected unless erysipelas supervenes. Crowe has previously been convicted 15 times. for drunkenness, larceny, and other offences. There wa#a fire at iNewton this morning which destroyed a large dwelling house in Dublin street occupied by two married couples named Gladding and Harrison, the property of John? Jeffrey. Several adjoining buildings were' greatly endangered^, but the fire was prevented from spreading by the efforts of the Newton and Auckland brigades. The occupants escaped with their lives. No furniture was saved. Building is insured in the South British for £125. { At the Supreme Court, civil 'sittings, the case of De. Thierry v. Fitzgerald is proceeding. The plaintiff claims £500 commission for negotiating the sale of a block of twenty-four thousand acres at Okahakuru.
