NAPIER.
This day. In the Supreme Court on Thursday evening Frank Stoddart was convicted of stealing £27 m money and a diamond ring valued at £t5, the property of Mr Dennett of the Star Hotel, Napier. Yester'3 yhe was rAntenced to eighteen months' imprisonment. John Peter Napol on, for forgery and larceny, was senterced to two years' imprisonment, and Dennis Shannahan, convicted of wounding with intent, to six months. Michael Griffin, for criminal assault on a girl rider age, out on bail, did not surrender. His Honor remarked th;t,it was the first instance of the kind in his experience. John Harde Anderson was convicted of embezzling the money of his copartner, Christopher David; Berry; sentence deferred. His Honor said he would consider whether reserve cases could be felonious embezzlement, in the other cases than servant. During tho trial of this case a witness named Pearson was committed to gaol for coming into the box drunk. Samuel Cardwell was convicted of larceny of money and a watch at the Spit.
