HOKITIKA.
This day.
Mr Button has addressed the electors. He expressed his views strongly against the Grey Government, and announced that he would oppose Sir George Grey on all Ministerial questions, and as be believed the constituency was favorable to the Grey Ministry, he had no desire to represent a minority. It was moved : " That the thanks of the meeting be accorded to Mr Button for his past serv'.ces, and that this meeting has every confidence in him for the future." To this an amendment was moved as follows: "That after Mr Button's political views expressed to-night, whilst having the highest respect for Mr Button's able and conscientious services in the past, this meeting is of opinion that the sympathies of this constituency would be represented more in accordance with public opinion here were it represented by a suppor' rof Sir George Grey." On the amendment being put it wi>s carried by a large majority. It is considered cert m that Mr Button will now resign.
