Mr Seaton, the member for Green Island, addressed his constituents last night. He defended the action *e>f the Otago representatives against the charge that they bad ''sold the rights of the province 5 and said that they had made the best bargain ever made for Otago. The proposal for manhood suffrage he regarded as " bunkum,", but he would, perhaps, be forced to vote for it to prevent Major Atkinson's Government getting into power. He thought the only way out of the present difficulties was to have country or board works for each island. A vote of. confidence was carried unanimously.
