WELLINGTON.
Wednesday. A circular was sent today to all heads of departments, instructing them to. inform all officers that they can ne longer depend upon the lOtJi section of the Civil Servics, Act, 1866, granting a gratuity to their wires and families after they die. The circular adds that it is now opea to officers to provide for their wires and face'lies by means of the Government Lire Insurance. It is announced by Order in Council that no cadetship in the civil service will count until the cadet receives over one hundred pounds per annum. I In reference to the long promised bridge at at Napier heads it is understood that Government will subsidise the bridge to the amount of six thousand pounds, and give to the contractor a lease of the bridge for 21 years. The salmon recently placed in the different rivers of this district are reported by the settlers who hare lean them to be thriving very well.
