Heavy floods in the suburbs with con■iderable damage to property. It rained heavily from Thursday to Saturday, dating which four inches fell. The Yarn rose so rapidly that in a few hoars it overflowed its banks on all the law lying lands adjacent, and speedily submerged every building, Most of.the stores on the south bank of the Tarra were completely surrounded, with communication only by boat, and then only with difficulty owing to the rapid current. The traffic on the south side of Prince's Bridge was suspended for labours in consequence of the water running orer the St. Kilda road.
The whole stretch of land as far as the eye could reach was one expanse of water. - <. *
One life was lost, a Chinaman being drowned is his hilt, Upper Yar,ra. The flocd was not within four feet of the great flood in 1868, but the water rose much more rapidly. Numbers of persons had not time to sare their goods; Many only escaped with their lives with diffi. culty. ' A. most serious accident occurred a few nights ago. The boys in the Bcfoimatory School at Goburg mutinied, and for an hour kept a large number of warders at bay. Blank cartridge was fired at them, but to no purpose. At length the door of the dormitory was smashed in with an axe, r.nd an entrance was gained. Some rather ugly wounds were received on both sides. No cause is assigned for the outbreak. , "' "

The Chimbonuso, while on the passage from Melbourne, struck on a rock at Feint Perpendicular, and put back into Jerris Bay with, the fore compartment full of water.
A slight riot occurred on Sunday night owing to the sectarian preaching of Pastor Allen, in Hyde Park. A large crowd collected. Missiles were thrown at the police. They charged with batons and hit. pretty freely. .The steamer Easby ran down the schooner Northern Light inside the Heads. Tho schooner sank; the crew were sarcd.
The case, Manning r. New Zealand Insurance Co., lasted a fortnight and resulted in a rerdict for £7C30 for the plaintiff.
