The Governor's Visit.

The following correspondence, receired by Dr. Kilgour, Mayor, has been handed to us for publication. Accompanying the first letter were two cheques for :IjC5 each: —

Government House, N.Z., Auckland, 22nd March, 1878. Dear Sir,—l am directed by His Excellency to' enclose to you a small donation for the Hospital and Ladies' Benevolent Fund, which he requests that you will be kind enough to present to the proper persons. - - I am, dear sir, Yours faithfully, IttrtiN C^Malino, Capt. 23rd Jlegt., Prirale Secretary. Government House, N.Z., Auckland, 22nd March, 1878. j gir,—His Excellency having been informed that you have been acting throughout as the Chairman of the deception Committee, I am directed to express to your Worship asthe Mayor of Grahamstown, and through* you to Mr Brodic as Chairman of the County Council of the Thames, and to the various other local governing bodies, his appreciation of the very warm and cordial reception which was accorded to him by the inhabitants of the Thames district on the occasion of his recent visit. It is at all times most gratifying to His Excelleny to observe the loyalty and affection towards Her Majesty which at all times induces the inhabitants of Hew Zealand to accord a kind and hearty welcome to Her Majesty's Beprcsentative in this Colony. His Excellency believes that the bonds of union which unite New Zealand to the Mother Country can only prove of mutual advantage to both, end he trusts tbnt time mny only tend to" cement and strengthen them.
