RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. (Before W. Fraser, Esq., R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Thomas J. Cutts was charged with having been- drunk and incapable in Pollen street, Grahamstown, on the 18th inst.
Defendant pleaded not guilty rerj emphatically. Sub-Inspector Bullcn deposed that he had seen defendant yesterday acting in a strange monner, and gesticulating, with
a lot of children about him. He was drunk.
Defendant: By the Holy God above I was not drunk.
Constable Day having corroborated Mr Buiien, defendant was filled 10s, or 24 hours' imprisonment. June French, an old offender, was also charged with having been drunk yesterday. Defendant begged to be let off' " this once," yesterday having been St. Patrick's Day. His Worship said had it been anybody else he might hare done so, but she had too many convictions agninst her. Fitted 10s, or usual alternative. VAGIJANCY. The same defendant (French) was then charged with vagrancy, having been thrice convicted of drunkenness within the preceding twelve monttiß. Defendant confessed the charge with tears.
Senienced to undergo three months' imprisonment with hard labor: Court adjourned. .
