HOKITIKA.
Monday.
An excellent specimen of quartz was brought to town from a new reef at Kelly's Creek, in the Taupo district, Christchurch Boad. The reef is four feet wide, and gold is visible throughout. The prospectors have applied for a lease of ground.
A new seem of coal has been opened up between Hokilika and Boss, at the foot of Bald Hill Range, about 20 miles from the Hokitiaa River. Six applications for blocks of land of 2C3 acres each have been applied for at the Lands Board office in consequence of the discovery. Several prospecting .parties are out through the district searching for gold in new localities. These arc supported by small weekly subscriptions by the public. One party are- on board the s.s. Maori, to prospect the sounds south of Jackson's Bay for minerals. This day. Homer, agent for the Bank of New Zealand, has turned up.
