An address to the electors is published on behalf of Mr George Elliott Barton by his son, announcing that his father will contest the seat for Wellington City against Mr Pearee, in the intereatii of Sir George Grey.

City of Sydney left San Fran-; cisco for Auckland on January 21st, thi contract date, with the London January mails for New Zealand and Australia. The s.s. Australia arrived at San Francisco on the 29th January, two days before her due date, with the New Zealand January mails for London.

Tonight's Post says it has been arranged that the Hon. M* Larnach will shortly proceed to England as one of the agents appointed to raise the new loan. Before leaving Mr Larnach will retire from the Cabinet, and resign his scat in the Assembly. The negotiations connected with the raising of the loan will be entrusted to Messrs Julyan and Sargent, the Apent-Ganeral, and Mr Larnach, as directly representing colony. It is probable that Mr Larnach, on resigning his seat in the Assembly, will be called to the Upper House.
