NONPAREIL UNITED.
Some littte excitement was caused in town to-day by the news that the manager of this claim had at last struck gold. On enquiries being made it was found that this report was correct, end some fine specimen stone was to be seen at the Bank of New South Wales, and at the company's office. The atone at the Bank is very rich indeed,, being probably worth 3 or 4 ounces to the pound. The discovery was made last night, and it con* sists of a leader about 9 inches thick which was intersected by the contraoi tors putting in an air drive in the Central Italy adit level to ventilate the workings of the mine. It has been cut at a distance of about 130 feet from the Central Italy shaft, and at present appears to bear something like north-east and south-west. The Moanatairi will get the continuation of it, but there is a long stretch of it in the com* pany's ground, and we. may soon expect to see the once celebrated Nonpareil a*3Ume a portion of its pristine glory.
