The Postmaster-General, in replying to a deputation of the Chamber of Commerce, approved of the route for a duplicate cable from Western Australian to Singapore, and hinted at the desirability of obtaining assistance from other Colonial Governments.

The services ot twelve school inspectors have been dispensed with. Further changes in railway and public works departments contemplated. It is stated that a bill to reform the Council is being drafted. This will be the first measure submitted to Parliament ou their meeting on the sth February, and should the Council reject the measure, the Government will appeal to the country ou the grounds that the Legislative Couucil refuses self-reforma-tion.
