The Postmaster-General, in replying to a deputation of the Chamber of Commerce, approved of the route for a duplicate cable from Western Australian to Singapore, and hinted at the desirability of obtaining assistance from other Colonial Governments.
The heat in the interior is immense. Several fatal sunstrokes are reported. The salaries of State schoolmasters have been increased. Friday. Brandy, rice, and kerosene, unchanged. New Zealand wheat, 6s 5d per bushel. New Zealand oats, 4s Gd per bushel. Tobacco, sugar, and candles unchanged. Adelaide flour £14 to £14 10s per ton, and Adelaide wheat 5s 9d to 6s per bushel.
Meiboubne, Saturday. There are no fresh developments in the political crisis. ♦
Edward Wilson, of the Argus, died in London on the 10th. Later. It is rumoured that unless there is a a speedy settlement of the dispute, both chambers of the legislature will be dissolved.
Dissolution of the Assembly is expected early iv March.
At a Cabinet meeting on Monday next Mr Berry will probably submit the names of certain officers of the department under his jurisdiction for dismissal. The services ot twelve school inspectors have been dispensed with. Further changes in railway and public works departments contemplated. It is stated that a bill to reform the Council is being drafted. This will be the first measure submitted to Parliament ou their meeting on the sth February, and should the Council reject the measure, the Government will appeal to the country ou the grounds that the Legislative Couucil refuses self-reforma-tion.
