The Advertiser this morning makes -a statement to the effect that " the Borough Council object to the anonymous efforts of some .individuals who .are believed to have sentmemorials tothe Governor askiag, that the road districts of Kauaeranga &ndj Parawai be merged into the Borough," &c. The " truthful, Jeames ". who wrote or inspired the paragraph knetf that such was not true in any respect, but the objeot of the writer is apparent. ItTs hot sbmuch.tdy; create.aa impression iri th(j public mind thaft the majority of the Council are op? posed to the union of Kauaeranga^ and Parawai with the Borough, as to bring into contempt 1 the action of certain ratepayers in the two Highway Districts named, who are taking perfectly legi--timate and > constitutional steps toVpre-* vent what-thfeyi! believe ; will ; prove detrimental to the "interests of their districts, namely merging the same into the County, and:to bring about what,j;hejj., consider,,will be to ttheir. advantage^ £wiat? is, union -of their districts with the Borough, with w^idh tliey have: interests in common. As a matter of fact,, and to show, the veracity of the statement made bY the Advertiser, we know that a letter was peaned this morning and signed by, five or six councillors, denying the statement made. The ratepayers who are maligned,, and whose efforts are characterised*- as anonymous, can take, care of themselves ' Xerj" well; and we jnuch doubt if they donot soon convince the inspirer or writer of the paragraph that they are as little likely jto be« cajoled into joining the t County 'as they J are ; to; be; deterred f)rom%Jh;eir presect efforts by the falae statements |of the "AHvertiserV";'*" 7:" ■"' j~7~~"',j ' .^
