PIAKO.
Considerable excitement was caused at about eleven o'clock ,to-4»y by the exhi* bition in the Bank <of New Zealand of six or seven golden stones from this mine. These were taken from the floor of the drive, near the big face at a point about 5 feet from the hanging wall of the reef, and were discovered by a man whilst engaged in cutting the stuff on the floor for the placing of a set of timber. A truck load of very rich stuff from the same place was also sent to the battery; " The quartz in the reef continues hard, but gold is visible now and then in different places across the face of the drive. It is impossible to say if there is any show left where the specimens came from, as there is a considerable quantity of water on the floor of the drive. The large : battery started this morning, but it has not yet had long enough run to form any estimate as to how the stuff is shaping.
