MOANATAIRI.
The following is a copy of-the mine manager's report which was "to be^submitted at the meeting to be held at Auckland to-day :—" Thames, April 14tb, 1877. —The directors. _ Gentlemen y—rl bave^he honor to report as under: 80ft level, $'jt. cross-cut, No. 9 reef. The drive east is now extended 20ft from the shot of - gold, and the first 10ft driven showed good colors. To-day a clay slide- has beett intersected crossing the reef at right angles, but I do not think ■this will ' heave' the reef more than a few feet, and I look for improvement on the east side of this ; the reef being now 3ft" thick in the face. The drive west from cross-cut is extended 37 feel, and the reef is 5 feet thick. 'The slide previously spoken of has been cut into, but it will take a day or two to get -through it. The; reef will be 'heaved.'. south 15 io 20 feet, and when picked; up again on west side of slide I -look-for. ejacouraging prospects.. The stuff from this level and from drive east isinow mixed in: one battery, and is yielding 1^ ounces per- ton. * In last week's report locution ed the good show jf gold; going up m back of stope upg« the rui of gold. This, howeferj only^ield up for a few shots, when soft ground was met with, completely dislocating the gold, in fact not leaving a color in the roof, and the reef is also changed in character.. The stope west for a distance of 15 feet shows good strong copper, muridici &c, and occasionally a few pounds of picked stone are broken.; So long; as the reef^darries these minerals there is every probability of again picking up the run of gold. The stuff from these stopes for 50 feet long is averaging sozs per ton, and the general average from the No. 9 throughout is about 2ozs per ton. ,~Qn Monday next I shall start sinking a winze 15 feet east from cross-cut or 25 fest west from clay band. The situation of this winze will not. interrupt any. of the trick roads, and will pick up the shot of; gold: as... it dips r west should I it continue with the same strike and dip. I have suspended driving east on Wallace's, intersected main. slide. A little gold has been got fr^jm these stopes,,.and. {'rom*4he. cross-leader otherwise there is no change. Northwest Cross-cut. —Junctions jof.Nos.j land 3 reofs.--Dri? Ing west has been suspended, having met with' No.- ■■■% slide.;ydfa: the upper levels nothing payable waf: met with on the : west -side bf^is; There is nothing fresh in the drive east, and the same remark applied Ho stopeY during past .fortnight. 390 tons of general . quratz ' and picked stone has been crushed during the fortnight, yielding 6161ezs retorted gold. From this time we shall retort fortnightly. The 1 machinery is in good working order, and Monday next fresh water from Thames Water Supply will be laid on for table purposes.—l remain, gentlemen, yours ■ obedientlyi B. Gomeb." . ..■:
