QUEEN OF THE MAY.
As was-anticipated, the retorting for this mine has resulted in a first-class payable yield, and is, in..fact, considering the amount of quartz crushed, one of the best yet obtained. The return amounted to 3970zs lOdwts retorted gold, for which was crushed 140 loads-of quartz. The crushing took place at Bull's mill, 13 head of stampers being employed, and the return would have been larger had not the battery been obliged to make a. short stoppage. The gold was melted in the Bank of New Zealand to-day and reduced to two bars weighing 390f ounces gold. kuranui;hill united. Petersen and party, late tributers of a section of the AH Nations ground, finished a final crushing of 5£ tons on Saturday for the satisfactory return of 17ozs retorted gold. The parcel was Crushed at the company's battery. EEJECTED (KARAKA). This is the name given to a piece of ground situated on the Collerbone spur, Karaka, which was recently pegged out by Vine and party. Whilst accumulating a crushing of general stuff they selected about 20lbs of picked stuff and specimen*, which, on being clashed, yielded sozs gold. CURE. The crushing for this mine at the Tararu battery was completed on Satur* day, and the result, which was banked in the Union Bank, amounted to 17ozs 7dwts gold. For this return 30 tons of quartz were treated, the parcel having been taken from the No. 6 or soft lode, and the-N0.4 or black reef. The return, though not up to the expectations formed before the crushing started, is a better one than was anticipated after the crushing had been in progress for a few days.
MORNING LIGHT (OWHAROA.) The trial crushing from this mine $fc the Owharoa* battery wo.i completed on Thursday or Friday, and the result 3£ozs was brought to town on Saturday and lodged in the Bank of New Zealand. SMILE OF FORTDNE (OWHABOA).
A parcel of gold amounting to 16ozs lOdwts was lodged in the Bank of New Zealand on Saturday afternoon, as the result of a series of trial crushings for this mine at the Owharoa mill.
