Thames Harbour Board.
A special meeting of the Board, called by circular, was held at the Council Chambers last night. Present—Mr Davies in the chair; Messrs D. G-. McDonnell, Butler, Gibbons, Price, Mennie and Scott Hunter.
The Chairman Said he had called them together as a special meeting to meet Mr Fraser, the owner of the s.s. Rotomahana. It would be remembered that an application had" been made* to''the Board for permission to erect a shed upon the Goods! Wharf, which application had been sent to Wellington. He did not.well know what steps could at present be taken, as no reply had been received from the Government. They might allow, he thought, permission to erect the shed with the understanding that it should be removed if it was thought afterwards advisable. In conversation with Mr Fraser, that gentleman had stated that he.would build the shed and hand it over to the 11 arbour Board at its cost whenever they chose to take it. \ Mr Price said it was necessary that some steps should be taken at once, as the bad weather would soon be in, and a shed for cargo was absolutely necessary.* Mr D. G. MacDonriell asked if in the case of another boat wanting the use of the shed could it be given to them? Mr Price said that it would not be fair in the first place if Mr Fraser erected the shed at his own cost that others should have the use of it. .
Mr Gibbons proposed that Mr Fraser be allowed permission to erect a shed on the wharf according to plaus to be furnished by Ibis Board, and have the use* of the same until such times as the Board was in a position to purchase it. The Chairman asked Mr Fraser if tie would hand over charge of the shed at
soon as it was erected, and to be charged for at cost price when the Board was in a position to purchase it. " v Mi- Fraser. said he simply wanted to erect the shed to protect goods^and did not wish any monopoly. He was also willing to store goods for other persons at a nominal charge to be fixed by the Board. • He had thought of erecting a building, say, ab-»ut 24 feet long by 4O.feet iwde.' t • j Y\. Mr Gibbons'motion was altered, that control of the building was to be given to the Board upon its erection, and it was then carried unanimously. v | Mr Scott Hunter proposed that Messrs Price, Gibbons and i>avies be a committee to act with the Harbour Master and Mr Fraser in the matter, which was carried, and concluded the business.
