HOKITIKA.

Saturday.

The presentation of prizes to the winners in the Colonial Prize Firing took place in the Volunteer Hall. There was a large gathering. The prizes were presented by Mrs Bonar, amidst loud cheering/ for the champions, Paynter and McLean, and local shots. A meeting of the representatives was held afterwards, in the Empire Hotel, when a number of resolutions, were passed for transmission to the Government. Captain Murray, of the Thames, occupied the chair. The first resolution expressed great satisfaction at the manner in which Col. Header and staff had discharged their duties, and especially with the services of; Staff Sergeant Stevens. The second resolution was, that the Government, be recommended to secure central and permanent ranges, as the expense of making new ranges annually is a very heavy item, which might be devoted to the increase of prize money. This resolution was supported by the Westland representatives. It was also recommended that no prizes except that of range prize be less than £5, and that the champion should be the Government representative without competition, and that the present qualification of competitors be continued. It is further recommended that a council or committee be appointed to make arrangements for the Colonial meeting, to consist of a president with one district officer and company officer in each island. This day. The Hinemoa sailed at 1.30 p.m. for Nelson, with all, the colonial representatives except a few who go overland to Christchurch.
