Match.
We understand a rifle match is being arranged for next Saturday, between six representatives and six men chosen from the other shootists of the district. The representative team consists of Brownlow, Armstrong, Bull, Murray, Clarke and Te Urawhara. We have not heard the names of the non-representative team. The representatives fire with the short Snider and the non-representatives with the ordinary medium Snider. The match will not only be interesting as proving the men and giving them practice in match firing, but it will also prove the value of rifles on issue to our Thames men against the short Snider—the latter is said to be the superior weapon. Saturday is a prize firing day of the Thames Scottish and Naval Brigade. The former have at once waived their right to the range, and we have no doubt the latter will also, on being informed of the match.
