The Tairua Company.
The manager of the above company reports as follows : —" lam pleased to be able to report'that I have struck gold in the drivefrom the No. 2 shaft, and- about idwt to the dish. . We are still cutting through the big reef, and prospects-at the rate of £dwt to the dish.^ 'Bat- ] '.tery progressing splendidly. "Will, report should anything of importance occur." The difference between this statement and the mendacious, report, which appeared stating that the prospect was 5 dwts. will be easily seen. The latter was calculated to mislead and raise expectations not' warranted by "facts'; a' mischievous course which cannot be too strongly condemned; Will it now be contended that the manager's report, " fully corroborates the statements of our (Advertiser's) correspondent regarding the rich prospects of the reef from the No. 2 shaft ?
