Ohinemuri Quartz.
MINERALOGICAL ASSAYS.
We have much pleasure in publishing the following results of two essays made by Mr J. Masters, mineralogist, of samples of stone sent to this office from Ohinemuri. We have been in possession of Mr Masters' letter for a couple of day?, but we withheld publication until after communicating with the person who forwarded the stone. Having done so, we learn that No. 1, the dark.blue stone, is from the Banyan. ~ In connection;with this* we may mention that there wai a show of metal very like a,dab of gold on the outside. In treating it Mr Masters carefully knocked off, the portion of quartz showing this metal, and selected a piece for treatment which contained no visible indications'of gold. The No. 2 is, we are informed, from a reef in a claim taken up by Mr Dixon and a party of Maories on the Waitekauri side of the Gorge. The localities from which the samples of stone were taken having been established, we havo^now much pleasure in publishing Mr Masters' report. In doing so, we may remark that samples of the two stones can be seen by the curious at our pub ishing office, Albert street: — Assay Office, Pyrites.Reduction Co., Thames, April 6th, 1875.
