RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Arepata was brought up on remand at the Police Court this morning, charged with stealing £49, the property of Henry Higson. The evidence taken went to show , that the two, namely, prosecutor and accused, had been drinking together, and the former sucepmbed to the liquor, and went to sleep. When he awoke and recovered his senses, prosecutor missed his purse. Accused next day told a a young man named Acton that he had found tho purse, Acton advised him to take the purse to the Police. He did so, but the police, having become acquainted with certain circumstances that induced suspicion, took prisoner into custody. The evidence being doubtful, however, the prisoner was given the. benefit of the doubt, and dismissed. The .Resident Magistrate complimented Acton on his conduct. The prosecutor presents £2 to the Thames Hospital.
