THAMES GOLDFIELD HOSPITAL.
The members of the General Committee held their usual monthly meeting in the Salutation Hotel, yesterday after* noon. There were present —"Win. Rowe, "Esq., President; Key.V. Lush, and Messrs W. Davies, Frater, Benney, Gurgeon, Bagnnli, Sims, McCullough, Mcllhone, Macnab, Hudson, Brown, Hill, Adams, and Kennan. Apologies were receired from Bers. J. Hill and Crump, and Mr Comer. THE HOUSE COMMITTEE, : j in their reports, recommended the plan suggested by Mr Hollis, architect, that of papering the whole interior of the building with strong sheathing paper, having previously sized the walls with three coats of strong glue size, and afterwards hanging the walls with imitation oak paper, and rarnishing the whole with good copal varni*h. rJhe report gave rise to a great deal of discussion, most of ihe members holding different opinions. Mr Bagnall recommended lathing and plastering instead of Tarnishing, which was supported by Messrs Kennan and Davies. It was proposed by Mr Sims, and seconded by Mr McCuliough, that Mr Uollis' suggestion should be carried out. Mr Davies pro* posed, seconded by Bey V. Lush, an , amendment that the. walls should be only i siaad and varnished, all cracks and open-
ings to be first covered with laths. This amendment was carried. THE TREASURER'S STATEMENT showed that £41 10s 9d had been received ia donations and subscriptions during the past month; The maintenance >*nd general expenses amounted to £8114*^1, and salaries to £60 18s 4d, leaving a balance in the Bank of £66 13s 10d t and £250 due from the Provincial Government. The accounts were passed for payment,, and the balance-sheet and statement received.. SPECIAL MEETING. Mr Mcllhone—one of the committtf appointed at the special; meeting held on 2nd instant for the purpose of taking into consideration two cases of measles which could not be admitted into the hospital, but yet were of such a nature as ' to require instant attention—reported what had been done by the sub committee, and requested that, as the present arrangements had only been made until the meeting of this committee, the matter should at once be taken into consideration. Mr Frat^r said that -Dr Lethbridge was attending the patients, but not in bis capacity as Hospital Surgeon. Mr Mcllhone also said that at the special meetmg.a.letter from Dr Kilgour was received, complaining that .the nurse in charge of the female ward was incompetent. The Secretary was instructed to wrifct to Mrs Dunn, the nurse in question, informing her that her services .would not be required after one week from that date. Applications were also called for-froin persons willing to take the situation thus rendered vacant. - , . , Mr Mcllhone proposed that the nurse should be heard in explanation, which was seconded byMrDavies. Mr Sims proposed, as an amendment! that Messrs Brown, Mcllhone, and the mover should foim a committee to enquire into the statement, made by Mrs Dunn, and that the consideration of the appointment of a nurse should be' postponed until next Friday. This resolution was carried. ■ -- "?.:■*,■# Mr Sims proposed *that the action of the subcommittee respecting the arrangements made for the men suffering from measles be confirmed. ■ Seconded by Mr Da vies and carried. A letter was received from Messrs Braithwaite and McCaul, offering to give a. patent ventilator for the use of the Hospital, . . 1'" ■ ■,',--;' Beferred to House Committee. '.? Mr Da vies said that the matter of .pro* vidinsj accommodation for persons suffering from measles and other diseases which could not be admitted to the Hospital would be laid before the Borough Council, and he thought some assistance would be given to the Hospital authorities to enable them to meet the expenses incurred in providing such accommodation. Dr Elgour .was in attendance upon the same matter; but, .as the hour .was late, the consideration of the matter was postponed until Friday afternoon." . ,\\ Mr McCullough gave notice that he would propose, at the'next monthly meeting, that the dispensary attached to the Hospital, be a public dispensary. ; A rote of thanks to the Chairman, after tvhich the meeting was adjourned until Friday aftcntoon, concluded the business.
