RAVAGES ORANGE AND BANANA CROPS. ’ By Telegraph—Proas Association. WELLINGTON, April 8. Reports from the Resident uominissioncr, concerning last week’s storm in the Cook Islands, indicate that in Itarotanga th"r- lm been a loss of “> per cent of the banana crop and ,i 0 per cent oi toe orange crop, and that all early tomatoes lia.vo been destroyed. A favourable feature of the report is tliat though the orange crop suffered severely Hie orange trees have not been destroyed, nor d : d they suffer material damage. Tlie fact that there has been severe damage to the co'oanut crop, however means much to the Cook Islands, as the export of copra is the staple industry of the group.
