ZINGARI OPENS RUGBY SEASON. At Lancaster Park during the Easter vacation, Zinguri (Tiinaru) set the ball roliilig with their annual game against Linwood (Christchurch). The visiting team wero minus several of their best players, but under the captaincy of D. G. Fairbrotlior, put lip a splendid fight, and the. issue, 28—9, against the Timaru team, reflected in no manner the trend of tho play. Outstanding features of the game were tho superb play of Elvey (Linwood and New Zealand), McCormack (Linwood), Gibb, Dore, E. J. Fail-brother and L. Eiloy (Zingari). Elvey was responsible for one of the most brilliant tries secured at Lancaster Park, while Gibb, for the Timaru Learn, equalised with a magnificent penalty, .several yards outside halfway, the kick being taken from the touch]inc. At the picnic, following the Rugby contest, Zinguri, captained by D. F. McKenzie, secured a closely won victory by eight runs. Zingari’s relay team consisting of Dore, MeGliio, D. G. Fairbrotlior and L. Riley were also successful, the Timaru players winning two out of tlie three chief events. The visitors wish to thank tho Linwood Club, particularly Air Alf Barrett, for tho hospitable treatment extended by the northern club.
