MURDER IN GAOL.

An extraordinary case of convicts committing one murder and attempting another for the purpose of drawing attention to their alleged ill-treat-ment in prison, occurred when a lorry was carrying 100 convicts to the Delta Gaol. Fandemoniura reigned in the street when three prisoners cut the throat ot a companion. Tho. bystanders’ horror was innreased when, in the ensuing confusion, a number of manacled convicts, succeeded in scrambling to the roadway, and in the subsequent melee, a guard was severely slashed, in the ince. Three assailants used a knife, winch had beeii prearrangpdiy concealed, in a loaf handed to them as the lorry passed the railway station. They were on route tp gaol alter examination in Cairo in connection with the murder of a fellow convict in gaol in order to draw attention to certain alleged grievances.
