AUTOMOBILE ASSN.

■ JHONTHLY MEETING. Tlie monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Automobile Association wans held last night. Present, Hr. C. A. Paterson (chairman), Messrs N. M. Orbed, T. Scott, ,1. I’alhser, S. G. McClelland, AY. T. Ritchie, and AV. 11. Orbell. . . The Timaru A. and P. Association and South Canterbury Executive of the Farmers’ Union wrote drawing attention to. the damage caused to sheep by motorists. It was pointed out that the slightest bruise on fat sheep and Inmbs made them second class quality and it was asked that the matter bo brought under the notice of tho members of the Association. Members stated that little could be done in tho matter, excepting to make it public. It was pointed out int most drovers did their best to clear passages for cars, but the traffic of late had been particularly heavy. The Ashburton County Council wrote stating that the Rangitata _ Bridge would be open to traffic during the Easter' holidays, but the public, could use the. bridge at their own risk. The secretary stated that since the receipt of the letter ho had receiveed advieo that the bridge would be open to traffic until, further notice. The engineer to the Geraldine County Council had a scheme by which the bridge could be repaired without hindrance to traffic.

Discussing sign posts the chairman stated that a muon larger sign post was needed at the intersection of High and King Streets in Timaru, to indicate the Main South Bond. Mr MeLcllnud also drew attention to the sign post at tho foot of AVni-iti Road, indicating the Main North .Road. lie stated that the sign was about 50 yards past the foot of AVaiti Road, and a motorist would proceed up AVai-iti without noticing it. It. was decided to liavo the sign shifted immediately.
