Kiuloeli-Cooke asked if it were proposed to take any action to modify the Dominions’ restrictions upon assisted passages. Dav asked whether tlie autluuities would hold an inquiry into the allegations that The Waimana, used to convey migrants to New Zealand, was totally unfitted for the purpose —that 1)90 .passengers were cramped into invent i'luted. six-berth cabins, and that there were only .line baths for the whole of the migrants. Sir Burton Chadwick said the AVaiiniiiii; had been surveyed, and complied with the regulations. Mr Day asked if Sir Burton Chadwick had received a complaint from 250 passengers Hint the ventilation was had and the feed abominable, also that towards the end of the voyage 2d was charged for a g ass of water. (sir Burton Chadwick replied in tho negative, but stated that if details were supplied he would have them investigated. Captain R. Cco asked if he would gel the regulations nllered. Sir ilurltm Chadwick replied that lie was not nwii.e, that they wore had. They liad .proved satisfactory in many ships.
