HARBOUR BOARD.

THE COMING ELECTIONS.

On Wednesday next the election of members of the New Plymouth Harbour Board will be held concurrently with the municipal elections throughout the district. This time the harbour board elections are being contested on a new franchise. In the boroughs and town districts tho elections will be fought on the extended franchise in which the residential qualification is included.} There the borough and town district rolls will be used in the elections. In the counties. however, tho franchise is still limited to ratepayers, and tho county rolls will bo used. The anomaly which thus exists, however, has been adjusted for tho present, as far as possible, by tho grouping of various districts. All tho elective members of the present harbour board offer themselves for re-election, and two (Messrs. M'Cluggage and Wilkinson) have been returned unopposed. Of the remaining members, at least two will not return to the board, inasmuch as five of them arc contesting seats in two districts in which only three members are required. The complete list of candidates is as follow (sitting members are indicated by asterisks); Combined district of New Plymouth, Fitzroy and St. Aubyn (two seats); James B. Connett”, Charlie E. Bellringer, and Donald K. Morrison. Combined district of Taranaki and Egraont Counties (two seats); —Newton King”, Ebenezer Maxwell”, and Richard Price.”

Waimate County (one seat); —W. T. Wells”, D. J. Hughes.” Eltham County (one seat): —James U. Murray (Eltham) and Wm. Swadling (Kaponga). (Mr. Jacob Marx withdrew his nomination).
