ABSURD EXPORT DUTIES PROPOSED. Per Press AssociationCHRISTCHURCH, April 21. The Trades Council this morning passed a largo number of remits virtually without discussion, including approval of a State ferry service, classification of motor drivers, registration of land agents, separation of the days of general election and local option poll, State supervision of accommodation for bushmen, abolition of private registry offices, registration of plumbers, and appointment of public defenders as wtll as Crown Prosecutors. The conference declared in favour of free, secular and compulsory education, and condemned the efforts to introduce the Bible in schools or denominational grants. It was decided to urge Parliament to impose an import duty of three pence per pound on skins and greasy wool. The next conference will bo hold in Wellington.
