The Phoebe has arrived from Lyttelton.— The Caversham election has resulted in the return of Mr Tolmie by a majority of 65. Tolmie, 217 ; Cutten, 152. GREYMOUTH. Hall, a miner, fell over a precipice 40 feet high, near Notown, and was killed. HOKITIKA. Robinson, Hoos, and Barff in Committee consider that an amendment is needed in the Gold Mining Bill, now before the House. Their report will be forwarded to Wellington, and they hope that the bill will not be hurried through. NAPIER. Arrived, Coronilla. Sailed, Star of the South, for the Thames, with a cargo of sheep.
