THEATRE ROYAL.

There was bat a scanty audience at the Royal last night to witness the performance of “ Not Guilty,” which may to a great extent be accounted for by the weather, which was bitterly told. Tonight “ Caste ” is to be put on the stage, on the occasion of Mrs Walter Hill’s benefit. We feel confident that there will be a good attendance this evening of all others, as Mrs Hill has made liers' lf, and most deservedly so, a great favourite with the Thames theatre going people, and notwithstanding the fact that they have been in the habit of seeing this lady acting off aud ou for many years, yet they are never tired of going again. This fact is amply proved by the very flattering reception Mrs Hiil alwa\s Vec«-ives upon her re-appearance here after a short absence. Mrs Hill as an actress is most decidedly high up iu the profession, aud her rendering of various characters in which we have seeu her is certainly quite equal to, aud in many instances far uiiuve that oi many of the great “ stars" by whom we are at times visited. Apart from her position as an actress, Mrs Hill has always gained iho respect and esteem of those who know her in private iife, aud she has made many fri -nds amongst us by In r ladylike and unassuming manner. Itisarery long time now since Mrs Hiil has asked the public here to assist her at a benefit, and we do hope that they will now reply to the invitation, and, by their presence to-night, testify their appreciation of the lady’s wellknown talent*.
