WAIOTAHI HIGHWAY BOARD.
A MEETING or the Waiotahi Highway Board was held yesterday 'afternoon. Present—Mr Davies (in the chair.) and Messrs Anthony, Gudgeon, Mcßoberts and Dowden. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. rOLLEN-STEEET FOOTPATH.’ Mr Adcock waited upon the Board, and stated that he would guarantee from £7 to £lO to be collected in aid of repairs to the footpath on the eastern side of Pollen street, near Karaka Bridge, which is in a very bad state. • The Chairman said they would take the matter into consideration, and that the Engineer should receive instructions to prepare an estimate of the expense. The Engineer said it would cost from £2O to £25. The Board agreed if the work could be done for £25, and if the inhabitants contributed £lO, the work should be proceeded with. Mr Hogan, of the Fountain hotel, complained that the carters kept driving across the platform in front of his house, and broke it down. He did not like, to puli up anybody to Court about it, but if the Board would put up a notice it might do some good. The Board said they would undertake to put up a notice cautioning persons not to drive on to the platform. BELLA-STREET. The Secretary stated that an action against Mr Kneebone, for refusing to remove liis house, would be heard on Saturday at the R.M. Court. TUE ALLEGED ENCROACHMENT BY THE CALEDONIAN G.M.C. Mr Simpson said he had had a conference with Mr Wright in reference to the encroachment of the Caledonian G.M.C., but the plans did not agree. According to the dedication plans the Company had encroached 8 feet upon the road. It was resolved that the matter should stand over for the present. COROMANDEL-STREET. The Engineer stated that the state of the weather bad been so bad that the repairs and alterations in Coromardclstreet could not be gone on with at present. highway boards empowering act. The Chairman said the members of the Parawai Boaid had requested the members of this Board to join them in a petition against the Empowering Act, and they bad replied consenting. In the mean time the Parawai Board had signed the
protest forwarded by the WaitakereiBoards and sent in to the Superintendent, who bad replied to it in terms since published (see our issue of yerterday.) It was resolved to sign the protest, and forward it to his Honor the Superintendent. POLLEN AND COCHRANE STREET. The Engineer stated that the waterpipe which was broken was in course of repair, and that something more was being done to repair the road and culvert. CROSSINGS. The Engineer was instructed to keep a man constantly employed in sweeping the principal crossings which are at the present time in a very bad state. BELLA-STREET. The payment of £5 to Mr McConochie for shifting a house of Mrs Cane’s to Bellastreet was authorised. REMOVAL OF REFUSE. A letter was read from J. McCulloch asking for a renewal of his contract, which had expired, for the removal of refuse, etc., at 37s per week. It was resolved to renew the contract for a week. STONE CROSSINGS. The Engineer was instructed to see Mr McConochie with a view to getting the contract for the stone crossings pushed on as quickly as possible.
FIRE RATE BUSINESS. The Secretary said there were accounts amounting to £3l 12s to he paid, and there was nothing to pay witii. There were £4B 6s 8d of outstanding rates, but of these only about £2 were good. The accounts were passed and ordered to he paid as soon as there were funds in hand.
