INQUIRY INTO AFFAIRS OF SHIP ENGLAND. Wellington, Tuesday. The ship Ceoleno has sailed for London, and the s.s. Wellington for the North The General Government have reimbursed the immigrants by the England for all clothes, etc., burned whilst they were in quarantine. Mr and Mrs Seager have succeeded to the management of the Lunatic Asylum. Nine Auckland prisoners enroute for Dunedin have arrived here. The report of the committee of inquiry into the affairs of the England censures Shaw and Saville for having insufficient light and ventilation on the ship. The medical comforts were also insufficient, and medical inspection loosely conducted. The evidence goes to show that the smallpox originated early on the voyage. Captain Ilarington was highly praised for his generosity to the passengers. The doctor was. it seems, subject to epileptic fits, and suffered from defective memory, even so far as to forget the previous day’s treatment, and the sex of the patient. On the 15th of January the passengers declined the doctor’s treatment.
