The captain of the Dandenong has been severely reprimanded by the Steam Navigation Board, for endangering the lives of a fishing party in the Bay, and for not having a look out on board. D ring a row at the railway works, William Spier stabbed with a butcher’s knife a man name unknown. Death was instantaneous. Spiers surrendered to the police on Sunday, at Wodonga. The eight hour movement was celebrated here to day by the trades. April 23rd. A verdict of wilful murder against Spiers has been returned. The name of the man who was stabbed has been ascertained to be Quirk. Minerva Davis has been found guilty of causing poison to be administered to her husband. April 24. Arrived—Rita brig from the Thames. James Wilkie has been found guilty of the murder of Pensom at Daylesford, and sentenced to death. Defendants Barnard, Egerton and Head in the Verandah conspiracy case have been committed for trial. April 26. Joseph Lymane, for horse - stealing has been sentenced to five years on the roads. Sydney, April 22. Mr Olliver, of Combadello Station, is supposed to have perished in the bush. His horse, saddled, has been found straying about. April 23. A lighterman, named Harry Malone, fell dead last night, wliijst anchoring his lighter.. Mr Krolmian intends to exhibit 1601bs. of specimens at the Intercolonial Exhibition. They were procured from Hill End. The American ship Queen of the East, Captain Stoddart, from San Francisco to Newcastle to load coals for Hongong, was totally wrecked on an unknown reef, near Middleton Shoals. The Captain, his wife, and- crew have all safely arrived at Clarence Heads. Mr T. F. Merry, of Toowoomba, has commenced an action for damages against the mutual Provident Society. A new gold field has been proclaimed at Nacka Nacka Creek, County of Wynyard. April 24. Robert Smith, for receiving stolen cattle, was sentenced to four years on the roads. The reported gold find at the Maclay is a hoax. A rich lode of black oxide of copper has been struck at the mines in Boolboonda.
April 25. A man named John ifoung, clerk to the Crown Solicitor, cut his throat with a razor. The man had been drinking for some time back. April 26. Davis, an actor, lias been drowned in tbe Richmond river. He was on a professional visit at the time. The volunteers started to-day on their camp at Botany. About 1500 rank and file have gone out. April 27. The Captain and crew of the ship Queen of the East arrived here this morning by steamer from the Richmond River. Hopes are entertained of getting the vessel afloat again.
