A new lease called the Wheel of Fortune was pegged out a day or two ago. It has excellent prospects, being right on the run of the Golconda’s now specimen leader.
The Neptune arc driving on the main reef, and opening a new drive at a Uw level. In working the reef several new leaders of email size have been cut, but m*l fo owed.
The Trig Hill are working their rn-f and tin* small leader. The small leader is widening out fust, and the prospects washed arc far better than any that have efore been taken from this claim. The Golden Point Winze is giving better stone than before, and its yield will much improvethe value of their crushing.
The Working Miners are piffling in a new drive, their old one unfortunately having been destroyed in the last fresh.
The John Hull are about to put down a shaft 100 feet in depth, the work to commence at once.
The Lynch’s Flat G.M.G. arc preparing to erect a battery on their ground near the beach. The site is surveyed, and the work will he proceeded with as rapidly as possible.
BEACH MINING IN COROMANDEL. In Saturday’s Coromandel Jfail, we see the following advertisement, signed by the Commissioner of Crown Lands: - “Crown Lands Office, Auckland, March 14, 187’J.'—Notice is hereby given that proceedings will be taken against any persons whomsoever found after this date mining for gold upon land between high and low water mark of Coromandel harbour, or otherwise unlawfully intruding upon or occupying the said land for any pupose whatsoever. (Signed) D. A. Tout, Commissioner of (frown Lands.” And then a little further on in their advertising columns comes the following : Gold Mining Company (Limited), having received permission from lhe Crown to occupy and mine for gold on all that portion of the foreshore of Coromandel harbour, adjacent to the Golden Pali, Venus, and Green Harp claims, commencing on the south at the Government wharf, and terminating on the north at the southern boundary of Wynyardton. All persons are lioreby cautioned against
mining on or occupying the same, or they will be proseeeti d. — G. S. O'iIAi.LORAN, Legal Manager. Coromandel, March 15, 1872.” As one of tie se notices is a decided contradiction - of—tlie other, we might be allowed to ask, “ What does it m an, and which iv to be believed ? . Certainly both of them cannot be correct.
