COROMANDEL TUNNELLING COMPANY.
Tin-: importance of connecting Coromandel with Kennedy’s Bay by means of a tunnel through tiie Tokat a vr::'". cannot be over-estimated, as it will have the advantage of greatly lessening the distance between Jhe two places, and provide us with more frequent and certain means of commnnicaticu. The work of tunnelling through the range, we are happy to say, is progressing very favourably, for on paying a visit to tho tunnel a few days ago, we found it driven in to the extent of 280 feet on this side of the range, and about 80 feet on the oilier. The work, so far as it has been carried, has been faithfully executed, the tunneilingand timbering excelling an v! hingof i lie kind we have seen in the district, and reflecting the highest credit on those who have had supervision. The distance of the tunnel light through will lie over -1,000 feet, and we hope as the work proceeds to furnish the public with full particulars of its progress.—Mail.
