EXCURSION TO OHINEMURI.

The following is an account of the. excursion up the Thames river, as given hv one of the excursionists :—We started from the wharf at 8 a.m. in the p.s. Effort, with 73 passengers on hoard. After three hours’ toiling up the river, and a great deal of rolling about, caused by the large number of folks on deck, it was determined that we could not make Ohincmuri with any chance of getting back in proper time, so it was resolved to put into Ilikutaia, which was accordingly done. There we landed, and managed to put through the day by various expedients, such as eating, dancing to tbe enlivening strains of the bagpipes, &c. Towards evening the scene was enlivened by a nice misty rain, to counteract tbe effects of which wc amused ourselves by lighting fires and enjoying the heat thereof. About 8 p.m. we managed to make a start homewards, and having stowed some 25 of the passengers down below to act as ballast, tbe noble steamer succeeded without much rolling (owing to the ballast before mentioned) in making the port of Shorthand, and all landed, much pleased with their day’s amusement, the only drawback to which was that wc did not reach the place wo started for; however, the next time we hope to make better arrangements when going on an excursion to Ohinemuri.
