A number of bricklayers and others arc at present busily employed in makiug further alterations to the Supreme Court-house building. This time, fortunately, the alterations have nothing to do with the roof or its acoustic properties, but with the portion set apart for the use of the officers connected with the Land Transfer Aet Department. A large strong room is being built for the storage of deeds, register books, and other important documents. This is a most desirable step, and one which should have been taken previous to these valuable documents being conveyed to that building. Safes arc all good enough iii their way, but something more should be required where titles to a vast amount of property are stored. — I). S. Cross.

Some anxiety had lately been felt respecting the fate of Mr Patrick Coyle, an old settler iu Auckland, who had been missing for some time past. His friends will be glad to learn that ho was found on Wednesday morning last in the bush, at Kaiparn, by Messrs IJccdcll and Watson’s traveller, whilst that gentleman was crossing from Riverlicad to Kaipara. It seems that Covlc had been wandering about the bush for eight days and eight nights, and when picked up was in a very exhausted state. He was at once placed on horseback, and taken to the half-way house, between Riverlicad and Helensville, where he now remains.— Herald.
We take the following from the Otago Haiti/ Times : —■“ A newspaper lias Been started at White’s Bay, Marlborough, under the name of the HV/zYeV' Rag Rag. It is of very small dimensions, but an improvement in this respect is promised on receipt of a supply of paper from Blenheim. Judging from the general tenor of its contents, which are very amusing, the residents in that quarter must be nearly amphibious. Ladies appear to be very scarce, for we find it stated that among the visitors of the week were two of the fair sex; and again, referring to the visit of an excursion steamer from Port Underwood, tlie Rag says, ‘ the ladies on board were eyed with pleasure, as such an unusual sight is quite unknown to us.’ In the market report we find the following : ‘ Money very dull, lying on the hands of holders ; notes principally ; gold and silver wanted ; copper, no circulation ; stamps preferred.’ There is also a ‘ Theatre Royal’ advertisement, .with an amusing bill, and an intimation that ‘carriages may be ordered at 10 p.m.’ Another advertisement, of an excursion trip round the bay. says:—’Volunteers wanted. Passage free, if you can pull an oar ; otherwise, 10s.’ ”
