THEATRE ROYAL.
Last night at this place of amusement the “Two Roses” was presented for the first time to a fair audience, not nearly as numerous, though, as the lessees deserved. Miss Surtees in her first appearance has certainly gratified us, her acting is light, natural and graceful, and she played Lottie Grant to the life. Mr Tavares as Mr Digby Grant was very good indeed, and was quite at home with bis subject. Jack Wyat was rendered by Mr 13. N. Jones in a masterly manner, and is a part eminently suited to this gentleman. Of Mrs Walter Hill we must say simply that she played as she always does well and cleverly, neither omitting anything or overdoing any one part. Our Mr and Mrs Jenkins were all that could be desired, and received full justice at the bands of Mrs Jones and Mr South, who seems evidently to have mistaken bis vocation, lie ought to have been a “ shepherd.” The other characters were all sustained, and everything went as smoothly as could be desired. The laughable fare of a “ Pleasant Neighbour ” concluded a pleasant evening’s entertainment. The same programme will be repeated to-night, and all who go will bo well rewarded for their trouble.
