SIR WALTER SCOTT LODGE.
A nl'mler of the brethren of the above lodge assembled at 230 p.m., yesterday afternoon, at the Lodge-room, to present Bro. A. Beveridge, K.W.D.P.G.M., v/itli a handsome jewel.
Bro. A. Brolge, R.W.M., on behalf of the lodge, piesented the gift, which consisted of a handsome Past Master’s jewel, of pure gold, containing a splendid ruby in the centre, tiic work of Bro. Macready, of Auckland, and valued at more than £2O. In making the presentation, lie (Bro. Brodie) said that it gave him the greatest pleasure possible to be called on to present to Bro. Beveridge, on behalf of the lodge, a small token of the esteem in which lie was held by every member of the lodge. The R.W.D.P.G.M. had assisted them greatly, and at considerable inconvenience to himself, at all times, when asked to do so, and they had profited greatly by iiis advice and experience. Bro. Beveridge, in returning thanks, said that lie felt that the encomiums paid to him were undeserved ; that he had done his utmost for the lodge, and that any omission on his part had been through force of circumstances, and not for want of interest in their advancement. Hewould always remember this mark of respect paid to him, in presenting him with such a magnificent jewel, and lie would wear it with pride to his dying day. He had been most ably assisted in his work by all the officers, and was happy to say that their efforts had been crowned with success. Tn conclusion, lie gave some parting instructions ami advice to the newlyelected officers, and said he felt sure their future efforts would he crowned with success.
