SUPREME COURT.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 13,

(Before Iris Honor Sir G. A.Arncy, Chief Justice, and Common Juries.)

Walter George Pratt , who was acquitted on Friday of the charge of selling arms to the natives, was brought up again on Saturday on a similar charge. The case occupied the greater part of the day, and the result is not to hand ; but it is probable that it resulted in a verdict similar to that of the previous day. Some strong observations were made by counsel upon the conduct of the magistrates who were on the bench at Whangarei when the prisoner was committed. They asked questions which it was not the duty of any magistrate to ask. Some of them seemed to act more like counsel for the prisoner than magistrates appointed to administer justice. If any of those magistrates were present in the Court, he hoped they would hear what he said.
