UPPER TARARU.
To the Editor of the Thames Guardian
Sir, —The neglect of the Go\ r criiuient in not proceeding with the formation and making of the road to this district is much to be deprecated, seeing that the Aveather is propitious for the purpose, and labour cheap. It is an admitted fact that the present Government have throughout shown the greatest apathy to aid in its development, for Avhat reason it is impossible to divine. It is avcll known that had his Honor the Superintendent the sole control of the expenditure of the revenue on this field, this important district Avould have long since received its fair proportion. Tlie mines in the Upper Turaru district have been thoroughly prospected, and handsome prospects obtained, but the want of such a road as that much talked about would enable machinery to betaken up; Rich this much neglected district would, I am positive, vie Avith its more fashionable compeers—the Moanataiari, Wniotahi, &c. It is to be lioped the Government Avill now take immediate steps to expedite the making of this road, that both labour and capital might be profitably employed.—l am, &c., Takaru.
