HERALD GOLD MINING AND QUARTZ CRUSHING COMPANY.
Tub first annual meeting of the shareholders iu this company was held on Thursday, at 3 o’clock, in the office of tlu: company (Mr F. A. White, Shoitlandstrect). Mr J. M. Sliera was called to the chair.—The Secretary read the directors’ report, which showed that since the machine first started crushing the directors had increased the crushing power of the battery by five head of stamps, at a cost of £1(50, and ihe battery now had 20 stamps available. Arrangements had also been made for a hotter supply of water.— The report of the mine manager, Mr William Sims, was next read. He took charge in April last. After detailing the various works done under his management, both to the mine and battery, he indicated Ids belief in the future greatness of the company, and concluded by thus giving his reasons: “My opinion is based on the fact that the underlie of the Caledonian reef must of necessity pass through the entire lengdi of your mine ; and I am of opinion that it is more than probable that another rich run of gold will ho met with sea' -ards in driving west from the Impc ial Crown shaft, and if so it will strike through your mine, which will ultimately become of considerable value.” The following statement of accounts, made up to the 30th November, was also read by the secretary“ Receipts : £5,184 15s 10d. Expenditure : £7,000. Examined and found correct this lltli day of December, 1871. (Signed) G. S. Jakjns, Auditor. (Signed) F. A. White, Secretary.” —Messrs J. Cooinbc and J. Heron were elected directors for the ensuing year,tin tiie place of those who retired by rotation. —On the motion of Mr Boardinan, seconded by 41 r C. J. Stone, Mr Gregor was elected auditor. — D. S.
