POLICE COURT.— Yesterday.
(Before H. Goldsmith Esq., J.P., and J. Kilgour, Esq., J.P.) Drunkenness. —Thomas Kennell, charged with being drunk and disorderly in Albertstreet on the previous night, was fined 20s. or 48 hours’ imprisonment in case of non-payment. Extension of License. —An application by Mr B. C. Hayles of the Golden Fleece Hotel, for extension of his license to St. George’s Hall on the evening of the Hibernian Society’s Ball was granted on the usual conditions. Music and Dancing. —William Rose applied for permission to have music and dancing in his licensed house, the Thames Hotel, on the Ist January, on the occasion of the Thames Anniversary Regatta Ball, To this application the following memorandum was appended by Mr Bullen : “ This person is continually making application to have what are called free balls in his hotel, which are productive of disorderly conduct and drunkenness. In this instance no opposition will be made provided the house be closed for the sale of liquor at the usual hour to the public, and that music and dancing commence at 8 p.m., instead of midday as on a former occasion when the permission was accorded to Mr Rose.” —The magistrates granted the application on the usual terms and subject to the above conditions.
